Ministry trips 2024
LIBERIA- April 2024
“Spying out the land,” this was new territory for LWM. Liberia was the place from where slaves were shipped out to the Americas, and in the 1840s the place to where freed slaves were shipped back! It was the first country in Africa to gain independence, (1847) and is currently the eighth poorest country in the world. Unsurprisingly, then, the “health and wealth gospel” has a strong grip on the Church.
The main focus of the trip was a four day teaching conference for pastors and other church leaders, with 99 people in attendance. Teaching on the cross was a major theme, as well as the character of God, and the help He brings. Attendees showed a real heart to engage with the Word, with many spontaneous, in-depth question and answer sessions. Here also, witchcraft is a snare to many professing Christians.
Literature and Bibles were distributed freely and gratefully received. There is a vast need for help for the Church and nation, as the effects of two recent civil wars can be clearly seen.
MALAWI- September 2024
Ministering again in the “Warm heart of Africa,” Mark spoke at a church’s annual conference on the theme of “Let us focus our eyes upon Jesus,” bringing 19 branches together. There was time with the new students at Jesus Way School of Evangelism, and also with some of the graduates from previous years, including one who had become a pastor, and another a bishop.
An elderly bishop who was recovering from a bad stroke, when asked what his greatest need was, answered, “Bibles,” for the churches he oversees. There was also a gospel opportunity, where 23 souls responded to the appeal to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
KENYA - November 2024
This was a varied mission trip to western Kenya, with ministry in churches, at several Bible School campuses, the orphanage LWM supports and prison ministry. The usual “gifts” of toilet rolls and soap, (and STs and nappies where possible,) were donated to the inmates. Gratefully received and needed by them, this gives Westerners a glimpse into prison conditions.
Gospel opportunities saw 31 people respond to the invitation, and a piece of land donated by a village elder was dedicated to the Lord. The highlight was the graduation ceremony for the Bible students, with 35 students having studied through the year and passed their exam.
